Peschanaya Bay, Medny Island, Commander Islands, Russia. Dramatic escarpments, glacial cirques, and beautiful small beaches are prominent features of Medney Island in Russia's Commander Islands (aka Komandorsky Islands). The Commander Islands are located in the Bering Sea east of the Kamchatka Peninsula, and are the westernmost extension of the Aleutian Islands (though they are separated from the rest of the chain by several hundred miles). Medney Island is within the Komandorsky Nature Reserve (Komandorsky Zapovednik), and completely protected.
